(viking; I totally agree on your latest comment so I withdrew the whole statement as I was drunk and got upset over the news when I came from town; I totally agree with you... Thats the censorship...but I still need a good illustration for my point...)
Today has been quite a day; I worked untill like five this morning, drank untill eight, took the boat to my mom and slept for four hours untill awakened by a shovel of snow being tossed into my bed by my younger brother, with my elder brother grinning in the background. The occasion was that my mother is moving these days, and we had to come along to clean up her loft; or rather being part of what to throw and what to keep since like we where born. A pretty weird experience, as memories I've filed under "temp files" or "deleteable once", came along with the amusement of loads of nice things I've just filed wrong during the years and really want to keep and bring with me further in life. I managed to be somewhat strict as I ended up with one box; half memories and half useable stuff. It was a pretty demanding experience no matter what...
After that I went to another chapter in the "pönk" series at work. It's not punk, but jazz we are talking about. As I lost the first part of the concert with Håkon Kornstad Solo, I came just as the first song of Anders Hana/Per Zanussi/Morten Qvenlid started. I couldn't quite follow the concert untill the second "song", so I think I lost abit, but the concert was perfect for today, and even weirder than unpacking and sorting all my childhood memories. The trio played experimental noise, I thought, but after a while a pattern seemed to merge, and I got the impression that they wanted it to sound like casual jamming and incidents, but after listening I got one clear view, I don't know if the musicians agree with it, but I think they have really spend time studying this. This is probably coloured by my childhood flash backs earlier today, but;
- I think these guys went back to the entertainment industry in total; music, movies and computer games.
- I think these guys went way back to find both their amusements and fun as kids, as well as what scared the shit out of them.
- I think they combined point 2 very delibrately, to create some hell of scary shit.
The songs, or rather numbers, played was filled with scary sounds and, at times, tunes from horror movies(they didn't rip these), but it sounded like the sum of all nightmares I had after watching movies from childhood, but then again, I might be coloured by todays events. Then they suddenly turned this over into a cacaphony of what may sound like standing in the coolest game-arcade in the late eighties/early ninties hearing all the sounds at the same level (the bass was playing the shooting games, some flipper machine was at work, and at the same time the organ was plaing nintendo or anything else like supermario, while there was some "game over"-like, sad soundtrack underneath), then to suddenly switch into somehing that sounded like an old cassette-tape unable to play, sounding like something played backwards, just to turn over into a total scary experience again... Experiencing the shining, the ring, and the grudge, while watching white noise and dreaming of my childhood wet-dream of disneyland; all at the same time... Exelent and scary!
